Pikpup Privacy Policy
Last Updated: May 23, 2025Your privacy is important to us. This Privacy Policy explains what information Pikpup collects about you and your pets, how we use and share that information, and your choices regarding your information. By using the Pikpup app or any related services (collectively, the “Service”), you agree to the collection and use of information as described in this Privacy Policy. If you do not agree, please do not use the Service. We encourage you to read this policy carefully. If you have any questions, contact us at [email protected].
Information We Collect
We collect several types of information to provide and improve the Pikpup Service. This includes:
Profile Information: When you create an account, we collect personal identifiers such as your name, email address, phone number, and a profile photo (optional). We also require you to create a password for your account.Location Data: We may collect your general location or precise geolocation (if you enable location services) to provide location-based features. For example, we might use your location to show you nearby pet sitters or to verify the region you are in for service availability. You can control location sharing via your device Information: You have the option to provide details about your pets in your profile. This can include your pet’s name, species, breed, age, size, health or vaccination information, behavioral notes, and any other details that help pet care providers understand your pet’s needs. This information is part of your profile and is shared with pet care providers you interact with.Payment Information: If you make or receive payments through Pikpup, we (via our payment processor) collect information such as your payment card details or bank account for payouts. Note: Pikpup itself does not store full credit card numbers or bank account numbers on our servers. Payment details are handled securely by our third-party payment processor (Stripe). For example, when you enter a credit card in the app, that data is transmitted directly to Stripe; Pikpup receives a token or confirmation of payment rather than the card number. We may store limited payment information such as the last four digits of your card, card type, expiration date, or billing ZIP code for reference, and transaction details of your bookings.Usage Data: We automatically collect information about how you use the app. This may include log data like your IP address, device type, device identifier, operating system, unique device token (for push notifications), and the dates/times of your access. We also collect information on the features you use and actions you take within the app (e.g., search queries, pages or screens viewed, clicks, and other interactions). This helps us analyze and improve the Service.Cookies and Similar Technologies: While Pikpup is primarily a mobile app, if you use any Pikpup web pages or our website, we may use cookies or similar tracking technologies to remember your preferences and track your activities on our site. These technologies might collect information like browser type, referring URLs, and other web usage info. (In the mobile app, analogous technologies could include tracking pixels or analytics SDKs for usage analytics.)Communications: If you contact us directly (for example, through customer support emails or feedback forms), we will receive the content of your message and any attachments, along with your contact information. Additionally, communications you have through the app (such as messaging between pet owners and pet sitters) may be stored and monitored as needed to ensure safety and compliance with our terms.Third-Party Data: We might receive information about you from third-party sources, such as if you choose to sign up using a social media account or if a background check is conducted for pet sitters (with their consent). For instance, if we ever enable “Sign in with Apple/Google/Facebook,” those services may send us your name and email to facilitate account creation. We will only use such third-party information in accordance with this Privacy Policy.
We do not knowingly collect sensitive personal information such as government ID numbers, social security numbers, or any biometric identifiers through the standard use of the app. Please refrain from providing such sensitive data on the platform. Pikpup is not directed to children, and we do not knowingly collect personal data from anyone under 14 years of age (see “Children’s Privacy” below).
How We Use Your Information
We use the collected information for purposes consistent with providing an effective and safe pet care service. This includes:
Providing and Improving the Service: We use personal information to create and maintain your account, allow you to search and book pet care services, and enable pet sitters to manage their services. Pet and profile info is used to match pet owners with suitable pet care providers and to personalize your experience. We also analyze usage data to improve app performance, add new features, and refine the user experience.Facilitating Transactions: We use your information to process payments for bookings and services. For example, your name and payment details are used to charge your credit card and to transfer payouts to pet sitters. We send booking confirmations, receipts, and related transactional communications via the app or email.Communication: We may use your email, phone number, or in-app notifications to send you updates and important messages. This includes confirmations, reminders (e.g., upcoming booking or medication reminder for pet), and alerts (such as a message from a pet sitter). We also send service-related announcements, like changes to terms or privacy policy, security alerts, or support messages. We might send promotional communications or newsletters about new Pikpup features or promotions, but you can opt-out of marketing emails at any time. Transactional and account messages (like receipts or critical alerts) may still be sent as they are necessary for the and Trust: Information (including usage and communications data) is used to help keep our community safe. For example, we may monitor messages or other activities for fraudulent behavior, violations of our Terms of Service, or other misuse. Location data can help in verifying that a pet walk occurred or assist in emergencies. We may use personal information to run background checks on pet sitters or perform identity verification, where applicable and with consent, to increase trust on the platform.Customer Support: When you contact us with a question, feedback, or issue, we use the information provided (like your contact info and support history) to respond and resolve your query. This may include guiding you through a feature, helping to mediate an issue with another user, or addressing technical Compliance: We may process and retain your information as needed to comply with legal obligations, such as tax and accounting requirements (e.g., records of payments for tax purposes), or to respond to lawful requests by public authorities (e.g., subpoenas or investigations). If we believe it’s necessary, we will use information to enforce our Terms of Service, to prevent fraud or potential illegal activities, and to protect the rights, property, or safety of our users, pets, or the public.Aggregated Data and Research: We may use data in aggregate form (so it doesn’t identify you personally) to understand trends, such as the number of pet sittings in a month, or to derive insights that help us improve pet care services. This aggregated data might be shared publicly or with partners (for example, publishing a report on popular pet names, or average pet sitter response times) but will not include personal details.
We will ask for your consent before using information for a purpose materially different from those listed here, if consent is required by law.
How We Share Your Information
We care about your privacy and only share personal information in a limited number of situations, such as:
With Other Pikpup Users: When you use the Service, some information is shared with other users by necessity. Likewise, pet sitters’ profiles (name, photo, general location, experience, ratings, etc.) are visible to pet owners. Once a booking is requested or confirmed, additional information may be shared between the involved users, such as last names, precise address for pet drop-off or walk meet-up, and contact info (phone number) to facilitate the service. We encourage users to use the in-app messaging for communications and only share personal contact information once comfortable.Payment Processing: As noted, we use Stripe to handle payments. When you make a payment or a withdrawal, necessary payment information is shared with Stripe to complete the transaction. Stripe may collect additional information, like your device ID or IP, for fraud prevention when processing a payment We share the minimum required data with Stripe, and Stripe is contractually obligated to protect your info. We do not control Stripe’s use of your information; please refer to Stripe’s Privacy Policy for details on their practices.Service Providers: We employ third-party companies and individuals to help us operate and improve Pikpup. Examples include cloud hosting providers, database services, email/SMS providers (to send verification codes or notifications), customer support software, analytics services, or marketing partners. These third parties may have access to your information only to perform specific tasks on our behalf and are obligated not to disclose or use it for other purposes. For instance, we might use an email service to send out our newsletters (which would require sharing your email address), or a service like Google Analytics to understand how users interact with our app (which might collect usage data). All such providers are required to handle your data securely and in accordance with applicable privacy Transfers: If Pikpup is involved in a merger, acquisition, sale of assets, or financing, your information may be transferred to a successor or affiliate as part of that transaction. We would ensure that any new owner continues to handle your information in accordance with this Privacy Policy (or gives you notice and obtains consent for any changes).Legal Requirements and Protection: We may disclose your information if required to do so by law or in the good-faith belief that such action is necessary to (a) comply with a legal obligation, such as a valid subpoena, court order, or government request; (b) protect and defend the rights, property, or safety of Pikpup, our users, pets, or the public; (c) investigate and address violations of our Terms of Service or other agreements; or (d) detect, prevent, or address fraud, security, or technical issues. This could include sharing information with law enforcement or relevant authorities in case of disputes or incidents (for example, an injury to a pet or person, or any allegation of animal cruelty or unsafe behavior on the platform). With Your Consent: Apart from the scenarios above, we will share your personal information with third parties only if we have your explicit consent to do so. For example, if we plan to share testimonials with identifying information, or partner with a company for a special program where you opt-in and agree to specific data sharing, we will obtain your consent.
Importantly, we do not sell your personal information to third parties for their own marketing purposes. We also do not share your personal data with third parties for purposes unrelated to providing or improving the Pikpup service without an appropriate legal basis (such as your consent).
